Alt's Oct 15 sale closed three PSA 10 Pokémon cards over $1 million in one night, every one of them payment pending
Alt ran one sale on Thursday, October 15, and three cards left it above $1 million, per Chase Society's weekly report (October 19, covering October 12 to 18). The 1998 Tamamushi University Magikarp, PSA 10, made $1,056,000 and led our Monday issue; a 2004 EX Team Rocket Returns Gold Star Mudkip, PSA 10, made $1,046,250; a 2010 Japanese Daisuki Club Umbreon, PSA 10, made $1,005,000. All three read payment pending when Chase Society read Alt's feed on October 19. Chase Society adds a detail the first coverage of the Magikarp missed: the lot came with a near-complete set of the contest's merchandise, so its price is for the package rather than the card alone.
The rest of the night

| 2015 Art Academy Pikachu (Meli) | PSA 10 | $351,466 | n/a | Pending |
Prices include the buyer's premium, per Chase Society. Pops are PSA counts as Chase Society reports them; the report gives none for the lower six.
The comps
The Mudkip had the shortest climb. A PSA 10 made $1,020,000 at Fanatics Collect on September 20 on 48 bids, per Chase Society and ComicBook.com (September 26, which dates the close September 21), so Thursday's result is 2.6% above the last sale of the same card at the same grade. PSA counts 42 copies at 10.
The Umbreon had the longest. Its last PSA 10 sale was $146,400 at Goldin in May, and Alt's own valuation going into the sale was $183,714, per Chase Society. The $1,005,000 result is 6.9 times the May sale and 5.5 times the house estimate, on a card with 43 copies at PSA 10. The Eevee ran the same shape one tier down: $615,000 against a $66,000 PSA 10 sale at Fanatics in June and a $99,453 Alt valuation, 9.3 times the comp and 6.2 times the estimate, with 27 copies at 10.
Pending is the word that matters
A pending result is a bid, and the hobby has spent October learning the difference. Chase Society's October 19 read of Fanatics Collect's October 4 auction found 25 of its 49 lots over $100,000 still unpaid, $5.96 million in all, led by a $960,000 Cresselia and an $840,000 Southern Islands Mew; Fanatics' terms put that night's payment deadline at October 20 and allow relisting after ten business days without payment. A PSA 10 Lily-Chan Art Academy Pikachu sold for $660,000 at Fanatics on October 18 and read unpaid a day later. Alt's record has been cleaner: Chase Society's October 16 read of Alt's feed showed all 48 readable lots paid. The three seven-figure lots from October 15 are the first test of that record at this price.
What it means for the market
The pop math is what the night changed. Forty-two Mudkip and 43 Umbreon at PSA 10 now carry a seven-figure comp that nobody has yet paid, 85 cards in all, and the Eevee's 27 copies carry a $615,000 one. If the Umbreon settles, every other Daisuki Club Umbreon at 10 reprices from a $146,400 comp to a $1,005,000 one. If it does not, the comp falls back to a number seven times lower, and the sale enters the record the way the unpaid Fanatics lots have, as a bid that did not become a price.
The valuations tell the second story. Alt's house figures for the Umbreon and Eevee were set against their prior comps and the sale ran 5.5 and 6.2 times past them. At the top of the market the house estimate is no longer a guide to the clearing price, and the last public sale is not either; the Mudkip, which had a fresh seven-figure comp from September, moved 2.6%, while the two cards with stale comps moved by multiples.
What to watch next
